Same Job, New Agency

For those of you that don't know I have change departments again. I am now employed by a city of in the Bay Area of CA. Over the next 4 months I will be going through their fire academy learning how we do things on this department. I have been asked by several people that I continue my blog. I completely intend to do just that but it may not be updated as often as I would like while I'm in the academy. I hope that you enjoy reading this blog as much as I enjoy creating it.

Valentines Day

One year ago today it was snowing on Morongo Valley and it was bitter cold. February 14 is my one year mark at MVFD. Looking back it has been a good year with lots of ups and downs. Anniversaries usually are a time to look back and become nostalgic but today is more than just my one year mark. Today is also my last Saturday here at MVFD. I have been offered a position at a city in the Bay Area as a firefighter/paramedic. It's a bitter sweet thing leaving here. I am going to be going to a department where I can provide a better life for myself and my family but I am going to miss working with the guys on my shift. Over the last year I have had the opportunity to work alongside and get to know some of the greatest guys. I have formed relationships that will probably last the rest of my life. It can be hard to be away from your significant other on Valentines Day (for the second year in a row) but I think it is a little fitting to be here at work today.

Happy Valentines Day

Wires Down in the Snow

If you look closely you can see steam and smoke coming from the power lines melting the snow and then burning the brush. The shift that was on the day before us had to babysit these all night.

One of the residents that was blocked in by the downed power line has a heart condition and recently had heart surgery. He told us that it was a great comfort to him whenever he woke up during the night to here the motor of the fire engine rumbling outside.
