Random fact day

Have you ever seen an ambulance posted somewhere on the side of the road and felt sorry for the very bored paramedics sitting inside waiting for the next call? Well, fear not, they have devised ways to pass the time and stave off the boredom. Usually relief comes in the form of portable DVD players and the like. Yesterday was random fact day.

What, besides seeing, are a frog's eyes used for?

10 points to the first person to guess this one!

  1. is "frogs eyes" the nickname for the EMT sidekick? if so, he is good for the following; foot stool, fetcher of soda from the quicky mart, hot air (only if cpr is needed), and a Dan J. favorite- brake test dummy.

actual frogs eyes? good for fish bait. and some mid west chicken casserole recipes.

  3. Well, as for Agalychnis callidryas (Red-Eyed tree frog) some scientists believe that the frog's red eyes are used as a biological defense mechanism called "startle coloration." If the nocturnal frog is approached while asleep during the day, its suddenly open eyes will momentarily paralyze the predator, providing the frog with a few seconds to escape.

Other than that, I believe frogs hear with their eyes.

  4. er...uh...let me consult with the judges. The judges find that this was not the answer we were looking for (in relation to the Agalychnis callidryas answer) so points can not be awarded at this time.

    As for the hearing...no.

  7. Close - frogs use their eyes to help with the swallowing process. I'll award 5 points to Sarah for being the closest.
