They Pay Me For This??!!

Sometimes I am simply amazed that I get paid to do fun things. Granted, what I think is fun, other people think is crazy. My aunt doesn't like even the idea of having to climb the aerial ladder.
Here's the front of one of our newest tillers.
Going up? 105' almost straight up.
Once your up there's quite a view. Here's the cab of the truck and the back of our apparatus bay.

Here's my engine. We're doing morning checks so the cab is tilted forward. You can see a couple of firefighters starting up the saws and fans.

  1. So funny! These things are exactly the reasons that my husband loves what he does...playin' just as hard as you work for a living! And it helps if it's incredibly dangerous too!

  2. when you're up 105' in the air, is there any safety harness you wear that travels up with you? or do you just cling on for dear life?

  3. Anonymous- That depends on what we're doing. If we're just using the ladder to get up on the roof (or to go up and take pictures) than we don't lock into anything. If we are going up and are going to be up there for extended periods of time then we lock in with a "ladder belt." It's a leather belt that goes around us and it has a large carabiner on it that we clip to the ladder.
