Sad, But True

It's a sad commentary on today's EMS system when communities have to host website to teach people when to call 911. I thought it might be helpful to others. Please share it with your family, friends, neighbors....and anyone that calls 911 for a not so bright reason (here are a few stories from a fellow blogger).

  1. Common sense isn't so common anymore, is it?

  2. I don't know, but maybe I missed something. It does not tell you when NOT to call 9-1-1. Until we are ready to accept that problem and deal with it, which means telling people no, then the problem is not going to resolve.

This approach assumes that the average person who abuses EMS has a computer and knows how to use it for anything other than Facebook.

Yes, I know there are studies that cry out that paramedics are not very good at determining the need to go. So what is the problem? It's an educational one. Stop filling our classes and CME with fluff and crap.

  3. Hydrant girl- You're absolutely right. Common sense isn't.

9-Echo-1- Unfortunately I think that it's a problem that is not going to be solved. I think that medics are going to have to start telling people that they shouldn't go to the hospital. But that is something that the local EMS agencies would have to sign off on.

  4. Wish I'd seen this last week! Good stuff. But where I work, people still wouldn't get it! :)

    Thanks for linking me!

And I agree--it's a liability issue, and no one will want to take responsibility and risk, when its just easier to ship 'em.
